10 sample questions, with answers explained
Every question above with its correct answer and the reasoning behind it. Read the explanations for the ones you answered correctly too. A lucky guess and knowing the rule look identical on a score report. These are sample questions from our larger bank.
1. A Rhode Island licensee receives a final order imposing occupational discipline. What reporting deadline applies?
Why: Rule 2.13 requires a written report within 60 days after the final judgment or order for covered convictions or occupational discipline. The reporting duty is not postponed to renewal.
2. A Rhode Island applicant selects a prerecorded, on-demand prelicense course. What does the current rule provide?
Why: Rule 2.7(D)(2)(a) prohibits on-demand and prerecorded prelicense instruction. A remote course must meet the applicable live, interactive requirements.
3. A Rhode Island salesperson has 45 classroom hours used for the salesperson license and wants to count them toward the broker's 90 hours. Is this permitted?
Why: The rule expressly bars reusing the 45 hours that qualified the person for a salesperson license toward the broker's 90 hours. Experience does not change that restriction.
4. A Rhode Island license was first issued in 2018. Which renewal schedule applies to that pre-2020 license under Rhode Island law?
Why: Licenses issued before January 1, 2020 use May 1 of even-numbered years on a 2-year cycle. The later issuance-date renewal system should not be applied indiscriminately to older licenses.
5. A Rhode Island broker follows the prescribed notice procedure to release a forfeited deposit to the seller. What waiting period does the Rhode Island notice provision use?
Why: The seller-or-landlord forfeiture notice branch uses 60 days from receipt of written notice. The different buyer-return period should not be substituted for that branch.
6. A Rhode Island owner transfers title for no consideration. What does the seller-disclosure chapter provide?
Why: RIGL 5-20.8-3(10) exempts transfers of title for no consideration from that disclosure chapter. The exemption is based on the transfer, not a requirement to hire a broker.
7. A Rhode Island team wants an escrow account separate from its principal broker. What does the rule require?
Why: Rule 2.18(B)(2) prohibits separate team escrow and requires use of the principal-broker-controlled account. A team is not independently authorized to hold escrow.
8. A Rhode Island licensee changes only a residence address, keeping the same firm. What notification is required?
Why: The notification rule covers residence-address changes as well as name, affiliation, trade-name and firm-address changes. Keeping the same firm does not eliminate the written 10-day notice.
9. An unresolved Rhode Island deposit dispute requires transmission of the money to the General Treasurer. What is the outside deadline measured from the original deposit?
Why: The outside limit is 180 days from the original deposit. Reclassifying the dispute later does not restart the statutory clock or justify indefinite broker custody.
10. A Rhode Island home warranty covers HVAC repair costs for a fixed period. Which provision should be considered before classifying it as a prohibited unfair service agreement?
Why: The chapter expressly excludes a home warranty or similar product covering major home-system maintenance for a fixed period. A fixed term alone does not make every service agreement prohibited.
